NEEDY CHILDREN will benefit from a back-to-school clothing drive spearheaded by a social service agency supported by a coalition of southwest Houston churches. On August 4 volunteers will be needed between 7:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. at a church in Bellaire to help sort, size, and arrange clothing and school supplies that will be distributed to participating low-income families. On August 10 and 11 volunteers will be wanted at the same location (and during the same hours) to help with the actual distribution of these items to the families.

THE LONG JOURNEY toward recovery begins for many cancer patients with a flight to Houston provided by a network of volunteer pilots. The sponsoring agency uses other volunteers -- called "Ground Angels"-- to take patients from Bush or Hobby airports to the hospitals where they will receive treatment. If you can spare an hour or two a month transporting a patient in your car, the agency will try to schedule your assignments at times convenient to you.
